The 2017 GATA Annual Meeting and Symposium will be held January 20-22, 2017 in Macon, GA at the Mercer University School of Medicine.  This year’s symposium provides attendees important educational opportunities, business meeting, social (Macon Mayhem hockey game), and professional networking opportunities. 

Throughout the weekend topics will include current concepts in the evaluation and management of injuries in physically active populations with a special session on Friday for our student members and a general session on Sunday teaching on-field equipment removal of the cervical spine injured football player.

The program is intended to provide entry-level and experienced Athletic Trainers opportunities to learn new skills and techniques on a variety of sports medicine related topics, as well as gain knowledge on issues important to the practice of athletic healthcare. 

Learning objectives: 

Sessions are geared to cover injury recognition, prevention and wellness protection, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, rehabilitation and organizational and professional well-being.

Following this symposium attendees will be able to:

  • Better manage concussions in physically active populations
  • Identify significant cardiac conditions in athletes.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of members of a sports medicine team of professionals
  • Identify cardiovascular "Red Flags" in Athletics
  • Understand the special needs and concerns when providing medical care, treatment and rehabilitation to current or past military service members.

Target Audience: All Athletic Trainers

Cancellation/refund policy: Cancellations must be in writing to qualify for refund and submitted to GATA Treasurer. 

  • Cancellation request received two weeks prior to the start of the scheduled meeting = full refund minus $5 processing fee 
  • Cancellation request received one week prior to start of scheduled meeting = 50% refund 
  • Cancellation request received <7 days prior to start of the meeting = No refund. 

Over 16 CEUs will be granted  by the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association, the Hughston Clinic, or Walters Inc for attendance at all educational sessions.  

Registration:  Discounted early registration rates start at $110 for certified members and $65 for students.  Day Passes for a single day's registration start at $50.  Early registration discounts end 1/10/17.
